Please pass on to your friends, especially in Kerala & Tamil Nadu. Thanks, MD] 4th March 2004 Respected Sir/Madam, Thuravoor Mahakshetram, an ancient Devasthanam situated by the side of NH- 47, approximately 25 Kms south of Kochi city, is the sacred abode of Lord Sree Nrisimhamoorthy and Lord Maha Sudarsanamoorthy. The Sudarsanamoorthy temple is reputed to be over a 1300 years old. It is said that the idol of Sree Nrisimhamoorthy originated at the sacred city of Kashi. Swami Padmapadar, the chief disciple of Adi Sankaracharya, is believed to have worshipped the same idol at Kashi in the 8th century. Unique in its architectural and artistic splendour, the temple is one of the most revered places of worship in Kerala. The two Sreekovils in a single Nalambalam, the two golden Garudadwajas, the strict and austere observances of the chief priest (who does not leave the temple premises during his tenture), the various festivals, the Vedic rituals and Purana discourses all through the year attract streams of devotees to the temple from within and outside the State. Great seers and saints such as Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Sringeri - Sree Bharathi Theertha Swamigal, Jagadguru Sankaracharya of Kanchi - Sree Jayendra Saraswathy, Sankaracharya of Puri - Sree Adhokshajananda Swamigal, Uduppi Pejevar Math head - Sree Visweswara Theertha Swamigal and the Jiyar of Ahobilamath - Sree Sadagopa Narayana Yatheendra Swamigal have all visited and experienced the spiritual and devotional grandeur of this ancient Devasthanam. During the month of Vaisakh (25th April - 1st May 2004), Thuravoor Mahakshetra will again reverberate with Vedic chants. The temple will be the sacred venue for Somayagam which is organised for the benefit, both material and spiritual, of mankind in general and the people of India in particular. Needless to emphasis, the elaborate rituals, as enjoined by the Vedas, need meticulous planning and the successful execution of the Yagna involves enormous efforts in terms of money, material and men. The estimated expenditure is approximately Rs.75 Lakhs, which includes providing food for the lakhs of devotees who would come to witness the Yagna everyday. This is for the first time that a Yagna of this magnitude takes place in the Central Travancore region. I solicit your co-operation of the successful conduct of the Yagna. With warm regards, Chennas Dinesan Namboothiripad Thanthri, Guruvayoor Sree Krishna Swamy Temple. Web: www.thuravoormahakshethram.org E-mail: thuravoormahakshethram@thuravoormahakshethram.org
