One mantra of Bhaagavata puraana mentions that love is required for God, friendship for his devotees, grace for those whose energy is scattered and slighting/ignoring is required for those who despise(This is quite akin to the formula of Maitri, Karunaa, Muditaa and Upekshaa prevalent in Buddhist literature). There is a famous story of one Shishupaala who attained god through despise. Moreover, Mahaabhaarata mentions that Karna had despise with Arjuna, Duryodhana with Bhima, Kaurvas with Pandavas. The word Dwesha has been amply used in vedic mantras. There it often appears with adjective Vishvaa. There, it has three forms – one in which first letter is accentuated, the second one in which the second letter is accentuated and the third one which is in plural. The word in vedic literature requires proper explanation in future. Here in this remark we can try to find out the meaning of what Bhaagavata puraana may mean when it instructs to ignore those who despise. Here, the mantra of Geeta can be quoted which says that the despise can be from three types based on Satva or Raja or Tamas. One should neither hate their appearance nor desire them when these disappear. It seems that this talk of despise is about the siddhis/successes in yoga which appear suddenly when one sits for meditation. These appearances can be distasteful also. One should ignore them. The same fact can be true about the delicacies appearing before us in daily life also.
