All ancient cultures propagate that there is an ocean of consciousness which is the source of birth of all beings. Every being in this universe comes from this ocean and assimilates into it after death. According to Dr. Lakshminarayan Dhoot, vedic literature defines this ocean more precisely, saying that this ocean is the ocean of unmanifested causes. Sacred texts state that the creator, who has been named as Brahmaa or Prajaapati, creates all beings from this ocean of unmanifested causes. This statement should be understood with caution. There is creation without Brahmaa also, which is happening naturally. The presence of Brahmaa modifies the natural process in the way that he helps creation in an efficient way, where causes can be utilized for creation of a more efficient world. How Brahmaa is born, it is not much clear. But how he modifies the natural process, there are hints for it. According to one puraanic text, lord Brahmaa entered the plants in the form of antisymmetry, in conscious beings in the form of power, in humans in the form of intellect and special accomplishments like conversion from large to small etc. In gods, Brahmaa entered in the form of nourishment. This statement can be taken as an extension of what has been hypothesized by Gowan( http://www.johnagowan.org/tetra7.htm ) in modern contexts. According to him, The universe was perfectly symmetrical before big bang. After big bang, this symmetry was disturbed in matter. Matter lost it’s symmetry. But according to lady Noether, symmetry can not be destroyed, just like energy can not be destroyed. Then where is the lost symmetry hidden? According to Gowan, a part of the lost symmetry is present in the form of charge on particles of matter. This concept can be taken as the basis to explain the puraanic statement further. Gowan talks of only matter, but puraanic texts go beyond to explain the symmetry in animate beings.
There is a universal statement in vedic literature that the progeny of lord Brahmaa/Prajaapati went out of his control just after birth. The only progeny which remained in his control was which was born according to principles of Yajna. This paper tries to explain on the basis of vedic literature and modern sciences what this statement may actually mean. The simplest meaning of the statement of going out of control may be applied on our outward consciousness. Turing this consciousness inward is the biggest challenge before vedic seers. Here control on progeny may mean control to prevent this progeny from losing its potential, to control it from being get disordered. Lord Brahmaa may mean the higher consciousness and progeny may mean lower consciousness. Yajna has been explained as means to prevent disorder taking place.
