श्री मातृभूमिनुत्यष्टकम्
श्रीविष्णुर्ममजीवनैकशरणो ब्रह्मा सुतो मे प्रियः
पौत्रो मे शशिभूषणः पुरहरो मा भैष्ट भो ! भारताः ! । (*)
यूयं तादृशवंशजा मम सुता भावैक्यबोधोज्ज्वलाः
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ १॥
(1) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- The Lord Visnu is the sole refuge of my life. His beloved son Brahmadeva, the creator is dear to me and there lives in the heights of the snowy mountain Himalaya, His grandson Sri Rudra, with the crescent moon adorning his head. Fear not O Bharateeyas! You are all my children, born in such an illustrious family, with your hearts beating in unison for the eternal glory of the Motherland.

श्रीवेदाः स्मृतयश्च शास्त्रनिचयो मामेव संसेवितुं
राजन्त्यत्र सुपूतदिव्यचरितानुद्बोधयन्तः सदा ।
तस्माच्छोकमरं विहाय नितरां सेवध्वमार्याः प्रजाः ! (*)
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ २॥
(2) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- The Holy Vedas, Smritis and the various Sastras bequeathed to you by the generations of yore are still flourishing here to teach and guide you in your onward march and place before you all the examples of great heroes, heroines and makers of your history and tradition, heroes and heroines who have led a life divine on earth. Arise my children, shedding once for all the sorrows of slavery and bondage to aliens and take your proud place on earth as free people in the comity of nations.
मुक्त्वा शोकमलीमसं प्रतिलवं सेवध्वमार्याः प्रजाः ! इति पाठान्तरम् ॥ (*)
नाहं केवलमृत्तिकोपलमयी भूरस्मि, नो वै जडा,
गाङ्गं वारि मदीयमेव जननीस्तन्यात्मकं निस्तुलम् । (*)
तस्मादेव नराः सुरासुरगणा मां मातरं मन्वते
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ३॥
(3) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- I am no inert, inanimate Earth, earthy, composed of mere mud, clay and stones. I am a living, pulsating spirit. The waters of the Ganga flowing through my expanse are the matchless milk of rejuvenation, providing nourishment for the body and the soul. Verily for that reason, the gods, men and others revere me as their Mother.
(*)गाङ्गं वारि मदीयमेत्र जननीदुग्धात्मकं निस्तुलम् ॥ इति पाठान्तरम् ॥
कश्मीरान्ध्रविदर्भकेरलजना वाङ्गाश्च वा मद्रगाः ! (*)
नाभीदेषु जनिङ्गतास्तु सततं जानीत भो ! सत्तमाः ! ।
साऽहं भारतभूमिरेव शरणं पुण्याय मोक्षाय वः
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ४॥
(4) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- Harken, ye good men and women fortunate to be born in the lap of BHARATAMĀTA, whether it be in Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Maharashtra, Kerala, Vanga or Madra. Understand this well-My children, that the land of the Bharata is the one refuge and source of merit and deliverance for all.
कश्मीरान्ध्रविदर्भकेरलजना वाङ्गाश्च वा सिन्धुगाः ! इति पाठान्तरम् ॥ (*)
चातुर्वर्ण्ययुता जिनेन्द्रपथगाः सिक्खा मुनीन्द्रानुगाः !
कृश्चीनार्यमुहम्मदीयमता भो ! पारसीकादयः ! ।
सर्वे मत्प्रियबान्धवाः सुकृतिनो धर्माध्वनीनाध्वगाः
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ५॥
(5) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows:- The adherents of the social system of Chaturvarnya (Sanatanis), the followers of Mahavira Jina, of Guru Nanak, the followers of the Lord Buddha, of the Lord Jesus Christ, the followers of the religion of AL-ISLAM, of Arya Samaj, the followers of Zarathustra, of Baha-ullah etc; living for centuries on this holy land in Peace and Contentment are all my CHILDREN, without doubt, wedded to the ideals of DHARMA conducive to the peaceful co-existence of all. Inspite of external differences, bear it in mind and forget not that all of you, wishing well for your Motherland are indeed ‘Bhārateeyas’ to the core fortunate in having found birth on My soil and therefore mutual Kith and Kin and blessed ones on that account.
भास्वच्छुभ्रहिमालयोज्ज्वलमणिप्रोद्यच्छिरोभूषणां
पारावारविहारवीचिविलसन्मञ्जीरझङ्कारिणीम् । (*)
देवीं भारतमातरं मुहुरहो ! रक्षन्तु मां पुण्यदाम्
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ६॥
(6) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- I am the Meritorious Goddess Motherland whose head-dress is the lofty immaculate snowclad Himalayas. The music of the waves of the Indian Ocean (where three seas mingle) sound as the jingling of my anklets. I call upon you my children, to remain ever alert in my service and defence.
(*)पारावारविहारवीचिविलसन्मञ्जीरशिञ्जाखनाम् ॥ इति पाठान्तरम् ॥
लोकाः सन्तु निरामयाः, प्रतिगृहं स्फूर्जन्तु धर्माण्यथो,
अस्तु स्वस्तिमती निरीतिरखिला सम्पन्नसस्याऽवनिः ।
श्रेयःश्रेणिजुषो भवन्तु धरणीपालाः प्रजाः सन्ततम्
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ७॥
(7) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- May all the peoples of the world be free from trouble and turmoil. May charity, goodwill and compassion flow towards all beings. May righteousness prevail everywhere in each hearth and home. May the world of ours be free from insecurity, internal and external. May the rulers and the ruled strive for and achieve the highest goals of prosperity all-round. The world is one. This is a fact. Let us become conscious of it and live up to this unity. A spiritual religion of humanity is the hope of the future. -Sri Aurobindo
सञ्जातो हि ! युधिष्ठिरः पुनरसौ भीमाग्रजः पाण्डवो
राष्ट्रोऽयं प्रबलो भवेदिति स यो नाजीगणञ्जीवनम् ।
तच्छ्रीपूज्यमहात्मगान्धिपथगा भूयास्त भो ! सुप्रजाः ! (*)
इत्याघोषणशालिनीं भगवतीं श्रीमातृभूमिं भजे ॥ ८॥
(8) I adore the Holy Motherland, which has been proclaiming as it were, through centuries and millenniums, as follows :- O My children! be advised to tread the path shown by the illustrious MAHATMA GANDHI, (Sri Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi) the most venerable father of the nation, who strove all his life for the consolidation of the nation. That inspiring leader was indeed the great YUDHISTHIRA-AJATASHATRU DHARMA- RĀJA of the Epic reborn, strong and steady in the cause of (Satya, Ahimsa) righteousness and he braved all odds and strove to the end of his life to make this your country, strong, free and united as of yore.
(*)तच्छ्रीमोहनदासगान्धिपथगा भूयात भो ! सुप्रजाः ! इति पाठान्तरम् ॥
श्रीमातृभूमेरेतद् वै पुण्यं दिव्यानुशासनम् ।
श्रुत्वावधार्य भूयास्त धन्या भारतभूसुताः ! ॥
Thus reverberates the irrepressible voice of Mother Bharath, through time and space, across the hills and dales, oceans and mountains. Let the Message pass through and Echo from your hearts and voices too and inspire your lives. And let the splendours of Bharat's past be reborn in the realisation of her imminent future with the help and blessings of her living soul. Overgrow your small egoistic personalities and become worthy children of our Mother Bharath, fulfil your duties with honesty and rectitude, and always keep cheerful and confident with a steady trust in the Divine's Grace.
मातृभूमिनुतिं नित्यं यः पठेद् भक्तिपूर्वकम् ।
सोऽवश्यं मातृभूसेवारतो भूत्वा सुखं व्रजेत् ॥
Anyone who recites this Hymn of Homage to Bharata Bhumi with devotion shall be a dedicated son of the soil and live at peace with himself.
