नौकागीतम् आगतोऽस्ति केरलेषु
नौकागीतम् Large snake boats
carrying scores of rowers zip through
water, constantly encouraged by
resounding rhythmic singing, with
vociferous encore. These ballads
have gained a deep rooted prominence
among folklore.
आगतोऽस्ति केरलेषु - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
जलोत्सवो महोत्सवः - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
स्वागतं व्याहराम भोः सानन्दं तस्मै ।
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
The festival called jalotsava (festival
of water sports) has arrived in Kerala.
Let us all welcome it with immense pleasure.
अहमहमिकया भोः - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
आगच्छन्तु बद्धकच्छाः - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
नौकाकेलीमारभाम सोत्साहमेव ।
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
Do rush in, one and all, in full
preparation, with a will to be in front.
Let us all participate in the boat race.
नौकागीतमालपाम् - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
नतोन्नतावृत्तबद्धम् - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
एकरागमेकतालसमन्वितं हा !
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
Let us all sing in chorus, the rower's
songs, set to the same tune and rhythm
in the meter called natonnata.
नौका सज्जा क्षेपण्यश्च - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
लोकास्सर्वे त्वरयन्ति - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
हर्षारवमुखरितमन्तरिक्षञ्च ।
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
Behold, the boat is ready, the oars are
drawn and the cheerful noise of the
crowd fills the sky.
नारिकेलं सन्निवेद्य - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
विघ्नेश्वरं प्रीणयेम - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
यानसञ्चालनं तावदविघ्नमस्तु ।
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
Let us at the outset offer coconut to
Ganeshvara, to void any hindrance that
we may encounter.
जलदैवतं प्रसाद्य - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
समारम्भं करिष्यामः - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
वरैरस्मान् सम्रक्षतु वरुणदेवः ।
ओ - तित्तित्तारा तित्तित्तै तित्तै तक तेय् तेय् तोम् ।
Let us seek the benevolence of the Lord
of Waters. Let Lord Varuna grant us
boons and blessings.
आगतोऽस्ति केरलेषु - तेय् तेय् तक तेय तेय् तोम्
जलोत्सवो महोत्सवः - तित्तत्ता तित्तैतोम्
स्वागतं व्याहराम भोः सानन्दं तस्मै ।
