Miscellaneous information


  • Must visit Marathi Vishvakosh site at http://marathivishwakosh.in. So far 16 khaNDas are added. The Marathi encyclopaedia is searchable with unicode support and in clickable format. See the promotional videos and event photo gallery. It is also available in print (old large scape paper and excellent printing) as well as in six CDs format. The first 16 volumes were conceptualized, compiled, and edited by Tarkatirtha Laxmanshastri Joshi. Complete 18 volumes will be online with the help of CDAC, Pune, India.

    The project is undertaken by the Maharashtra Rajya Marathi Vishvakosh Nirmiti Mandal, with Dr. Vijaya Wad being the chairman. Other involved individuals are Mr. Madhav Shirvalkar, Shri. Mahesh Kulkarni, Dr. Snehalata Deshmukh, Dr. Arundhati Khandkar, Prog. R. G. Jadhav, Dr. Bhalachandra Nemade, and current chief minister Shri Prithviraj Chavhan. Maharashtra Government has sponsored and dedicated the project to all Marathi speakers.

  • Read the link request and participate in building of the Marathi version of wikipedia/encyclopedia. Wikipedia is an international Web-based free-content encyclopedia that is edited and maintained collaboratively by volunteers.

  • Visit Sanskrit Documents site for many Sanskrit texts, tutorials, software, dictionary, and many more.

  • Learn Sanskrit via Marathi from the site Sanskrit for Marathi Manoos maintained by Shri Shripad L. Abhyankar. He also presents various related topics in sites SaMskRutaadhyayanam with Shri S. L. Abhyankar. Many lessons are provided under the title "Learning Sanskrit in distance learning mode" in addition to help on speaking Sanskrit. Also, Learning together Sanskrit and GeetA and Upanishat study.

  • Grama Gita by Santa Tukadoji Maharaj with English meanings is available at gramgeeta.org. Read it in Marathi at khapre.org grAmagItA.

  • Study Shrimad Bhagavata through Marathi with correspondence study program patrAdvAre shrImad bhAgavat abhyAsa, organized by Geeta Foundation, Miraj. Sign up for the four years program covering the entire Bhagavat. The Marathi translation published by Gita Press Gorakhpur will be used (two volumes). See the details in the announcement.   • Listen to nicely compiled subhAShita by Mrs. Shubhangi S. Ranade at http://www.sanskritdeepika.org with text and Marathi meanings. Click on subhAShite for Marathi meaning and audio clips. Subhashita Sangraha holds over 1000 subhShita neatly displayed.

    The marathi documents on this page have been encoded using the ITRANS transliteration scheme. Please install xdvng fonts (for the web pages), free Adobe reader (for PDF files), and ghostview (for postscript files) to view the marathi documents in the devanagari script.

    If you would like to try out ITRANS to create your own Marathi pages, please try the web-interface to ITRANS for creating postscript, PDF files and gifs.

    Windows (95, 98 & NT)  users can try out Itranslator from OMkarananda Ashram. It is an excellent interactive program for converting ITRANS texts to devanagari scripts and transliteration for sanskrit, marathi & hindi.

    Sanscript, Aksharamukha, Baraha, and Google transliterate are some of the additional sites for creating and processing the documents/texts in to multilingual scripts.
