श्रीमेधादक्षिणामूर्तिस्तोत्रम्
नतखेट-निशाट-किरीट-तटी-घतिटोपल-पाटल-पीठ-तलम् ।
तडिदाभ-जटा-पटली-मुकुटं वटमूल-कुटी-निलयं कलये ॥ १॥
I meditate upon Dakshinamurti whose pedestal is reddened by the gems set in the crowns of Devas, Asuras and Rakshasas saluting him, whose crown is his matted hair that shines like lightning and whose abode is under the Banyan tree. (1)
स्मरणं खलु यच्चरणाम्बुजयोः भरणाय भवोत्तरणाय भवेत् ।
शरणं करुणा-वरुणावसथं भज बाल-सुधाकिरणाभरणम् ॥ २॥
Worship him as the refuge, the meditation of whose lotus-feet causes sustenance (in this world) as well as crossing the ocean of worldly existence, who is the ocean of mercy and who is adorned with the crescent moon (of ambrosial rays). (2)
परिकीर्ण-सुवर्ण-सवर्ण-जटा-भ्रमदभ्र-सरिच्छरदभ्र-रुचिः ।
मुकुटे कुटिलं घटयन् शशिनं निटिलेऽनल-दृग् जटिलो जयति ॥ ३॥
The lord with matted locks is resplendent with the divine river drifting inside his gold-coloured coiled locks strewn on all sides, who resembles the (white) autumn cloud in radiance, who wears a curved (crescent) moon on his head and who has a fire-emitting eye in his forehead.
वट-भूज-तटी-घटित-स्फटिकोपल-कुट्टिम-वेदितले विमले ।
स्मित-फुल्ल-मुखं चिदुपात्त-सुखं पुरवैरि-महः करवै हृदये ॥ ४॥
May I ever keep in my heart that radiance which destroyed the Tripuras, that has a face blossoming with a smile and is blissful due to the awareness of the self, (seated) on a clear platform made of crystal under the Banyan tree.
अकलङ्क-शशाङ्क-सहस्र-सहोदर-दीधिति-दीपित-दिग्वलयम् ।
निगमागम-नीरधि-निर्मथनोदितमाकलयाम्यमृतं किमपि ॥ ५॥
I meditate upon that indescribable Amrta that emerges from the churning of the ocean of Vedas, that illuminates all the directions with a radiance akin to that of a thousand spotless moons.
विष-भूषमपाकृत-दोषचयं मुनि-वेष-विशेषमशेष-गुरुम् ।
धृत-चिन्मय-मुद्रमहं कलये गत-निद्रममुद्र-समाधि-विधौ ॥ ६॥
I meditate upon the one adorned with poison (in his neck), the one devoid of all defects, the one who has the garb of an ascetic, the Guru of everyone, the one holding the Chinmudra, the one who has overcome sleep (i.e.ignorance), in the state of un-self-conscious Samadhi.
दृढयोग-रसानुभवोत्कलिकं प्रसरत्-पुलकं क्रतुभुक्-तिलकम् ।
भसितोल्लसितालिक-विस्फुरितामल-दृक्-तिलकं कलितेन्दु-शिखम् ॥ ७॥ (कलयेन्दु-शिखम्)
(I meditate upon) the one inclined to deep Yogic experience, one whose body manifests goose bumps (due to his blissful state), the best among Devas, the one who has a fire-emitting eye on his forehead which shines with Bhasma (sacred ash), and who wears the moon on his crest.
वद चित्त किमात्तमभूद्-भवता भ्रमता बहुधाऽखिल-दिक्षु मुधा ।
निजशर्म-करं कुरु कर्म परं भवमेव भवापहमाकलय ॥ ८॥ (भयापहमाकलय)
Tell me, O mind, what has been gained by you wandering in all directions without purpose? Do that superior action which will cause your welfare, meditate on Shiva, the destroyer of births.
वर-पुस्तक-हस्तमपास्त-तमः श्रुति-मस्तक-शस्त-समस्त-गुणम् ।
मम निस्तुल-वस्तु पुरोऽस्तु वरं प्रणव-प्रवण-प्रवरानुगतम् ॥ ९॥ (प्रवरावगतम्)
May that incomparable thing manifest before me, that which has a great book in its hand, that has driven away the darkness of ignorance, that which has all the qualities extolled by the Upanishads, and is followed by the best of sages who are engaged in (worshipping, contemplating on) the Omkara.
पुरारि-पद-राजीवमाजीवं भजतां सताम् ।
कालस्तूलायते तादृक् कैलासः केलिशैलति ॥ १०॥
Yama is (insignificant as) cotton, and Kailasa becomes (easily accessible as) a sport-hill, to those good people who worship the lotus-feet of Shiva all their lives.
यत्कण्ठे गरलं विराजति सदा मौलौ च मन्दाकिनी
यस्याङ्गे गिरिजाननं कटितटे शार्दूल-चर्माम्बरम् ।
यन्माया हि रुणद्धि विश्वमखिलं पायात् स नः शङ्करः
जम्बूवज्-जल-बिन्दुवज्-जलजवज्-जम्बालवज्-जालवत् ॥ ११॥
May Shiva protect us, he in whose neck the poison shines like a Jambu fruit, in whose head Ganga seems to be (no more than) a drop of water, in whose form, the face of Parvati looks like a lotus, in whose waist the tiger-skin resembles clayey soil and whose Maya traps the entire world like a web.
इति श्रीमेधादक्षिणामूर्तिस्तोत्रं सम्पूर्णम् ।
The stotra with Tamil translation appeared in an old issue of the Tamil Magazine ``Kamakoti Pradeepa.'' One interesting fact about this Stotra, mentioned in the source itself, is that this Stotra is renowned for being chanted daily by Paramahamsa Medha Dakshinamurti Upasaka Sri Achyutananda Saraswati Swami, also known as Varahur Periyava.
