Bhagavad Gītā – Chapter 9 Notes

In Chapter 4 verse 24 we were told that everything is Brahman.  Here we are told (9.16) that everything is Krishna.  The obvious implication of this is that Krishna and Brahman are the same.

Those who are devoid of knowledge, who don’t bother to think, and pursue vain hopes, abide in prakṛti and all they do is done in vain (9.11-12).  But those who are truly great souls worship Krishna with a one-pointed mind because they know He is the eternal source of all (9.13).  They see that Krishna is both One and Many (9.15).

This concept of “One and Many” is key to understanding the Nature of Brahman as expressed in the Bhagavad Gita.  God is absolute, all-inclusive and totally unlimited (9.15-19).

There are many ways in which a person may worship Krishna.  Krishna accepts all forms of worship, however humble.  The important thing is that everything we do should be done as an offering to Krishna – this is one of the finest forms of yoga (9.28).
